To control the Nest Protect (2nd Gen) over Wi-Fi, make sure your router is supported by the thermostat. If you use an incompatible router, you may have problems connecting to the thermostat. As such you should check that your router is not one of the Nest Protect unsupported routers which include the following:

ASUS RT-N10

ASUS RT-N66U

ASUS WL-WL-330N

Cisco WRT100

Cisco WRT110

Cisco WRVS4400N V2

D-Link DAP-1360

D-Link DIR-605L

D-Link DIR-636L

D-Link DIR-651L

Hawking HWRN2

Netgear JNR3210

Netgear WNR834B

Netgear VMDG490

PLANEX CQW-MR500

Sapido GR-1733

Zuni ZGR304F

Zuni ZR301F

ZyXEL WAP3205

ZyXEL NBG4615

Nest recommends that you use specific Wi-Fi router network configurations to get the best experience with Nest devices. For instance, the Nest Protect (2nd Gen) requires routers to support IPv6 communications over the local network.
