What happens if you use the Plugable USB-C Docking Station with Power Delivery / Charging (Model UD-CA1) to charge the Apple MacBook (Early 2015)?

The Plugable USB-C Docking Station with Power Delivery / Charging (Model UD-CA1) is a USB Type-C based Dock that charges your USB Type-C Device using USB Power Delivery while expanding your connectivity options.

Using software from Granite River Labs, we are able to see how the Plugable USB-C Docking Station communicates with the Apple MacBook (Early 2015).

In the beginning, We can see that the Plugable USB-C Docking Station offers to the Apple MacBook (Early 2015) is 7.5 watts (1.5 amps @ 5 volts). 

Later the Plugable USB-C Docking Station offers to the Apple MacBook (Early 2015) are 15 watts (3 amps @ 5 volts), 36 watts (3 amps @ 12 volts), or 60 watts (3 amps @ 20 volts).

The Apple MacBook (Early 2015) only requests 30 watts (1.5 amps @ 20 volts) of charging.  We again looked at the signals through an oscilloscope to verify what the promised voltage and current was pulled.

Sure enough, while the voltage does drop to about 17.3 volts, the current rises to fluctuate about 1.35 amps.

The Apple MacBook (Early 2015) in a powered on state takes around 1 hours 50 minutes to charge completely with the Plugable USB-C Docking Station.
