The Marsboy 2 USB 3.0 Type-C Charging Hub Doesn’t Properly Support USB Power Delivery

Who is Marsboy?  They have several unique products sold through Amazon but they don't have a website.  Should you trust their 2 USB 3.0 Type-C Charging Hub with your Apple MacBook (Early 2015) or other USB Type-C products?

I purchased the Marsboy 2 USB 3.0 Type-C Charging Hub through Amazon Prime and received the product within a couple days.  The charger doesn't come with any external power adapter.

The Marsboy 2 USB 3.0 Type-C Charging Hub just contains the hub itself which supports USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gb/s) links on its 2 USB Type-A downstream ports and 1 USB Type-C downstream port.  I was able to connect the LaCie Porsche Design USB-C Mobile Drive to the hub's USB Type-C port and see it enumerate correctly on the MacBook.

The Marsboy 2 USB 3.0 Type-C Charging Hub has a peculiar implementation of USB Power Delivery- in order to power the Apple MacBook (Early 2015), you need to plug in the Apple 29W USB Type-C Power Adapter into its only exposed USB Type-C port.  It also has similar behavior with the Apple MacBook (Early 2016) as seen in this review.

Unfortunately, the Marsboy 2 USB 3.0 Type-C Charging Hub doesn't charge the MacBook using other chargers like the Anker PowerPort+ 5 USB-C with USB Power Delivery or iVoler 75W USB Type C Charger with Power Delivery.

The Marsboy 2 USB 3.0 Type-C Charging Hub also has problems with other USB Power Delivery enabled devices like the dodocool 30W USB Type-C PD Charger and HP Chromebook 13 G1 which you can read about in this review.

Looks like this product has now been removed from Amazon.
