The Moto Droid Z is a phone that has joined the list of devices that sport a USB Type-C port and support USB's power delivery protocol. In another review, we saw that Apple's USB Type-C MacBook charger works well with the Moto Droid Z. We wondered how the Google Universal Type-C Charger 60W would fare. Using Granite River Lab's USB Power Delivery Testing Software, we can see exactly how the two devices communicate to one another.

For starters, the USB Power Delivery Source Capabilities given by the Google Universal Type-C Charger 60W offers a few levels of power for the phone: 15 Watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 36 Watts(12 volts @ 3 amps), and 60 Watts (20 volts @ 3 amps).

The Moto Droid Z decides to ask for the first option, with an operational current of 3 amps and voltage at 5 volts.

We then took a look using an oscilloscope at the power being provided by the Google Universal Type-C Charger 60W.

As we can see, after the initial USB Power Delivery power contract is established, the promised 5 volts @ 3 amps is delivered.

Next, we wanted to see just how quickly Moto Droid Z could charge with the Google Universal Type-C Charger 60W, so we drained the battery to 5%.

In just over 40 minutes, the battery has already been charged up to 61%.

Another half hour after that, the rest of the battery was charged, for a total charging time of an impressive one hour and ten minutes.
