The Xiaomi Mi 5 supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 over USB Type-C. Let's see how well it works with other Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 chargers like the AUKEY PA-T16 Dual-Port USB Wall Charger.

The AUKEY PA-T16 Dual-Port USB Wall Charger is one of the first chargers in the market that supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.  It's designed to be a wall charger and can support charging 2 devices at the same time by plugging them into its 2 USB Type-A ports.

Both USB Type-A ports support Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 which allows Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 enabled phones to rapidly charge using these power profiles: 6-6.5 volts @ 3 amps, 6.5-9 volts @ 2 amps, 9-12 volts @ 1.5 amps.

Here we have monitored the current and voltage levels at different stages of battery charging by using a current probe and oscilloscope.

While charging with the battery at 0% charge, we can observe from the oscilloscope screenshot that voltage is 6.9V and maximum current is 2.1A (providing total power of 14.9W).

With the battery at 25% charge, we can see from the oscilloscope screenshot that voltage is 7V and maximum current has decreased to 2.1A

When the battery is at 50% charge, we can see in oscilloscope screenshot that voltage is 7.1V and maximum current has decreased to 2A

Here is the oscilloscope screen shot with the battery at 75% charge which shows the voltage as 6.38V and maximum current as 1.6A.

As the battery charges from 95% to 100%, we can see that the current drawn by the Xiaomi Mi 5 decreases the voltage 6.1 volts and 0.3 amps.

The following graph shows how the Xiaomi Mi 5 draws different current levels (with voltage in the 6.1V to 7.1V range) as the battery charges from zero to full.

The total power drawn by the Xiaomi Mi 5 goes up to 14.7 watts which is more that what we saw with the Tronsmart Presto (click here for that review).  This results in the Xiaomi Mi 5 taking around 1 hour 30 minutes to charge completely while the phone is powered on with the AUKEY PA-T16 Dual-Port USB Wall Charger which is faster than the 3 hours charging time seen with the Tronsmart Presto.
