The Google Universal Type-C Charger 60W is the first USB Type-C charger to be released into the market that supports USB Power Delivery. To see how the charger would fare in charging the Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016) which is also USB Power Delivery enabled, we will look at the USB Power Delivery negotiations between both devices when the MacBook's battery is fully drained.
The USB Power Delivery Source Capabilities given by the Google Universal Type-C Charger 60W offers a few levels of power for the MacBook: 15 Watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 36 Watts (12 volts @ 3 amps), and 60 Watts (20 volts @ 3 amps).
For some reason, the Google Universal Type-C Charger 60W initially rejects a request by the Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016) to pull 60 Watts (20 volts @ 3 amps) but then accepts the same request later.
The charger later requests to obtain Sink Capabilities from the MacBook which is then followed by data role swaps between both devices.
However, things get weird when resets occur, charging stops, and there is a constant attempt to identify the connected device.
When the Google Universal Type-C Charger 60W charges the Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016) on a fully drained battery, we didn't observe USB Power Delivery negotiation to successfully complete although we did observe that the MacBook Pro still draws 5 watts @ 3 amps from the Google charger.
