The iPad Pro 10.5-inch is Apple's Second iPad to Support USB Power Delivery

The 10.5-inch iPad Pro is among the 2017 lineup of new PC's by Apple that is supposed to replace the older 9.7-inch iPad Pro. Given the latest specs, this newest iPad Pro claims to be more powerful than its predecessor. Also when paired with the upcoming iOS 11, it promises to get even better to offer more features and upgrades. Click here to see how it could benefit from iOS 11

The 10.5-inch iPad Pro adopts fast charging capabilities by supporting USB Power Delivery technology over the Lightning connector. It also supports 4K video @ 30 fps and slo-mo 720p video @ 240 fps (or 1080p video @ 120 fps).

We purchased the 10.5-inch iPad Pro from an Apple retail store at the IFC Mall in Shanghai, China on the first day it started selling in the store. The building looks simply stunning with a glass tower that features the iconic Apple logo.

The 10.5-inch iPad Pro was spotted on display with the Apple Pencil which it also supports.

We got our 10.5-inch iPad Pro in a standard Apple box that uniquely shows a full view of the iPad on the box's surface.

The box opens up to reveal the 10.5-inch iPad Pro first before we get to the accessories under it. These are Apple's typical iPad's accessories which consist of a USB to Lightning cable, 12W USB power adapter, and documentation.

The 10.5-inch iPad Pro comes built in with a 30.4‐watt‐hour rechargeable lithium‑polymer battery which can charge quicker when using Apple's 29W USB-C Power Adapter through USB Power Delivery technology (click here to see review).

The 10.5-inch iPad Pro is slightly larger but also has the same wide color P3 Retina display as the 9.7-inch iPad Pro. The 10.5-inch iPad Pro's screen comes with a 2224 x 1668 resolution with 264 pixels per inch that is also wide enough to fit a full size onscreen keyboard.

The new iPad Pro also sports a 7 megapixel camera right above the screen.

Our 10.5-inch iPad Pro model looks really elegant in smooth Gold.

The 10.5-inch iPad Pro's Lightning connector supports USB Power Delivery technology for fast charging and USB 3.1 Gen 1 support for SD cards through its Apple Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader similar to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

The 10.5-inch iPad Pro also has a 12 megapixel back camera similar to that found on the iPhone 7. At the side of the camera is the volume button.

There are quad-speakers at the top along with a 3.5 mm headphone jack and power button. Another set of speakers are also available on the bottom side.

The magnetic Smart Connector on the side can be used to connect to an Apple Smart Keyboard. The Smart Connector will transmit both data and power between the keyboard and the iPad Pro.

Using the USB Power Delivery Compliance C2 Tester from Granite River Labs to run just a subset of the full USB Power Delivery compliance test suite, we can see that the iPad Pro supports charging using a fixed PDO of 12 watts (5 volts @ 2.4 amps) as well as variable power supply of 10.2 to 30 watts range (5.1-15 volts @ 2 amps). Note some compliance failures were observed.
